A couple days ago an email was sent from NASCA promoting a new documentary film that had been in the works for the past five years. Surely we were well aware of this fact and the anticipation was killing us!?! Not only had we never heard of this video, but it turns out that this video has been for sale as a DVD online for several years now and is not all that new after all. We wish they would have been honest with us instead of treating us like idiots and trying to pawn an already existing video as a new video. In fact, what is new is the ability to view the video online (speaker warning: this is one of those sites that turns on the music with no way to turn it off) for a mere $6.95 USD instead of having to purchase the DVD at well over $20 USD. Trailers for the video were available on sites like Myspace and mcomet but for some unknown reason were taken offline. Finally, a little further research shows that this film is owned by the lifestyles organisation so it should be a very well made video, however it’s too bad they resorted to this kind of advertising in order to increase their sales.

Read on to see the email that was sent, and I am sure you will agree that the Dr. is not being totally honest with us

Dear Friends;
As I am sure that you know, for several years we have been supporting the production of a feature length documentary on our lifestyle and our community.  I am pleased with the outcome. Filmmaker Michael Bloom spent more than 5 years creating this film. In doing so Michael created what will surely rival the praise and applause received once before by journalist and author Terry Gould for his Best Selling Book, “The Lifestyle; a Look at the Sexual Rites of Swingers.”  He gave his word that his film would be accurate, informative and positive, and he kept it not only to me, but to all of you as well.  Please support this film, its message, and all it can accomplish for us. Michael has agreed to offer it to our community (at a very reasonable price I might add) first before the national release expected for this fall.  If enough of us support by viewing Michael’s film that release can occur sooner and perhaps on a high profile cable channel.  I would not ask if it did not serve all of you… you know that.
  
Go to www.watchplaycouples.com; once there you will see how easy it is to watch. The picture is incredible, its full screen, and there isn’t any time wasted. Once I paid my 7 bucks the movie started immediately.

I felt I could stop right there and send this e-mail but had to pause.  Surely there was more to say about this film. After all, Michael Bloom spent a great deal of his life studying, and reporting his findings on camera.
 
It would give me great pleasure if you would visit the site. Michael and I have agreed to allow our friends to see “PlayCouples™, A New Era of Swinging” first - the debut of his film. If there is enough support through viewing the film our messages of privacy and selflessness may be heard by many. We have a strong voice but it is only strong when used together and for a cause. Our cause of course has been freedom of speech and freedom of sexual conduct - as long as it is in a private environment and always closed to the public.
 
 This film will certainly calm many of those who are curious, not with intention of recruiting them, but to simply show them the generous, responsible and fun loving couples that we are. This film takes a big step forward in answering some of the most common questions ever asked, yet not answered for public consumption.
 
The timing of Michael’s announcement could not have been better.  Some of you have sent us messages of new television programming attempting to dramatize our community.  If history is any indication at all, these films and television will be no different than the others while PlayCouples™, A New Era of Swinging will set the bar for the quality, truthfulness and dignity we all insist we must have in our lives.
          
 Supporting this effort here does a couple of things.  It assists Michael in recovering his costs which over the years added up as he travelled the world in search of the complete story.  A small portion of proceeds will go to NASCA as an honorarium.  Michael insists I allow him to do this. He did not set out to make enough money that he would retire, so please show the world that we do have a voice, and will be heard. If enough of us watch PlayCouples™, A New Era of Swinging Michael can report these numbers to his distributors and it may just be the missing piece needed to get his film into main stream.
